Chinese New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year!

Well, another year flew by.  We were blessed with the birth of our son, Logan in the year of the Rabbit.  How appropriate is it that his nursery is a Peter Rabbit theme. Although he’s only 3 and a half months old, his Chinese grandpa got him a lion -for chinese lion dancing- to enjoy next year.  How cute is that!!! My wonderful husband cooked a fabulous meal: Lotus Root and Ox Tail soup, along with Braised Chicken breast and stir fried snow peas and sour mustard.  We feasted and toasted to another year of ever growing success, good health, love and said thanks for the many blessings in our lives, especially family.

I haven’t forgotten to share the remaining zodiac animals.  Enjoy!

OX: 1901, 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009.

Cow is an animal that lives on the ground. Dragon is a creature of the sky. Cow and Dragon don’t know each other well. When they are together, they have minor conflict. Almost 7 years ago, I married an amazing man.  With him, I discovered a whole new world of Chinese Celebrations and Traditions. Chinese New Year is the biggest event of the calendar year for our Chinese side of the family.

I was blessed with the opportunity to ring in the New Year with my family.  We saved a lot of time, with a new baby at home, and ordered Chinese take-out.  Still, we celebrated with a stylish flare. I decided on a colourful colour palette with purple and teal, inspired by our teal and blue Christmas tree and the peacock hints.  Each place setting had purple napkins on black or white chargers in sparkling napking rings in coordinating colours.

As a little hint of fun each guest received a lotto ticket to ring in the New Year anticipating good luck and abundance.

Wow, another year flew by.

This year, I welcomed Sarah Blatta to my Event Planning and Design Team.  She is the best Event Coordinator Ever.  My Linen team grew.  A special thanks to Abiel, Nelson, Rebecca and my newly appointed Linen Coordinator Desiree.  Your hard and dedicated work means the world to me.

Great events came our way, including the U of M Dean’s Convocation Reception for the first time.  We had a great time at the Bravo Gala and ended the year with a bang at the GWL Christmas Luncheon.  How great is that.

In between, we continued to plan, design and orchestrate fabulous weddings, anniversaries, corporate parties and birthdays.  One of the most memorable of all, was Ms Kathleen Kirk’s 60th Birthday Party.  She is an incredible lady who against all odds made it through this milestone with smiles and a radiant spirit.  She continues to fight ALS with her head held high and inspires those of us who’ve had the pleasure of meeting her.  Thank-You Ms Kirk for reminding me that life is to be treasured, along with family and real friends.  You are an amazing soul; God Bless!

Nina Notaro from Cake Studio and Rosie from Mona Lisa Florist, thank-you both for your guidance, support and friendship.You are both such big talents and fantastic people, thank-You!  Costa from Broadway Florists, you are amazingly creative and I look forward to many collaborations with you. Congrats on the new store front.

Kelly Bik, you are an amazing friend and even better photographer.  I know the sky is the limit with the incredible work that you do.  I wish the moon and the stars for you!

The biggest milestone of 2011 and of my life was the birth of my son, Logan Alexandro.  Now I know real joy, perseverance and love.

I am truly blessed by all around me and thank my amazing clients, great friends and colleagues who continually open a world of opportunity for me.

Summer Love!

What better way to “set the mood” than through beautiful flowers and design.  Trevor and Kristi’s wedding ceremony was held at Pine Ridge Hollow this past week.  Mona Lisa Florists did a fine job creating a beautiful setting.  The chairs were adorned with champagne coloured organza sashes, while the aisle way was defined by beautiful swags and cute arrangements. The wedding canopy was accented by beautiful garlands made of pink garden roses. Way to go!

The reception celebration was held at the FGH and SAVVY was there.  Our team provided elegant floor length pin tuck linens in champagne and chair covers and satin sashes in ivory and champagne. The head table napkins were folded like a lotus flower and the dinner table napkins like beautiful rose buds. The Look was Simply Elegant!  Your event SAVVY team takes care of every little detail.

Mona Lisa added their special touch with romantic centerpieces with pink accents. Stay tuned for pics by Jeremy Hiebert.  The cake, by Nina from Cake Studio, and other details helped make this a memorable celebration.  Thank-You Kristi and Trevor for allowing SAVVY to be part of your special day!

Candy Bars, Dessert and Candy buffets…whatever you call them, they are fab and continue to grow in popularity.  Along with your event design, this is another feature that can serve as an accent to reflect your personal taste.

Here are some hints to include in your candy or dessert bar:

Incorporate it into the overall design.  Use your colour scheme or event theme to guide your bar.

Provide variety…of colours, flavors and types of candy or dessert.  This is a good opportunity to include your favorite sweets or popular delights.

Make it fun: add colour, variety, and incorporate it into the event’s activities.

Be sure to provide containers for your guests to indulge without getting their hands sticky or stained.  Also add scoops and labels to facilitate accessing their favorite treats.

Add fun accents through flowers, ribbon, interesting containers and labels.
